In Singapore, we are looking at a resumption of large MICE events from 24th April onwards; with the use of a new pre-event testing (PET) framework that was recently announced by Singapore’s Multi-Ministry Taskforce (MTF). The article can be found here.

We at Dorier are looking forward to a future filled with safe, successful, hybrid events. But why hybrid? As we shared in the previous article about the effectiveness of virtual events, audience engagement is one of the keys to determine the success of a virtual event.

In hybrid events where we are mixing between the offline and online interactivity and engagements, the possibility and results of the audience engagements are a lot higher and able to retain them to be staying throughout the event for a longer time, compared to a 100% virtual — where your audience has a shorter attention span.

When cutting short an event is not an option, especially the type of virtual conference and online workshops or webinar, having multi short breaks can be one of the options to reduce the fatigue of sitting in front of the screens too long.

How does Dorier do Hybrid Events?

One of the hybrid events we did was ANREV Annual Conference; it was a 1-day event with a total of 9 hours of content, managing a total of 15 keynote speakers from 14 countries. There were several short breaks in between the sessions to minimise the fatigue of the online audience. The interactive Q&A sessions were definitely effective in maintaining the engagement level of the online audiences too.

The event was successfully managed to achieve a 58% engagement rate (minimum of 3 hours continuously stay & participating online) from a total of 288 registered participants across APAC.

Virtual events or hybrid events are not something new; despite the facts of the increasing popularity and demands for it due to the COVID-19 pandemic; borders restrictions and social distancing measures across the globe make it the so-called best option to conduct an event.

In Dorier, our clients often ask about the effectiveness of virtual/hybrid events; especially in term of the engagement of the attendees.

The short answer to it:

"It will never be able to reach the same level of engagements in the face-to-face event"

However, it doesn't mean it is not worth it. As an event organiser or event planner; we should maintain our focus on the objective of each and particular event we are organising. Of course, the most important thing is the event experience of each delegate throughout the event.

The virtual or hybrid event does not eliminate the engagement and event experience but changing it; the key is how to adapt and rethink the way of engaging the delegates throughout the event.
